Coffee can have many health benefits, when used correctly!
If you're a fellow coffee lover, like me, this might be hard to hear, BUT if you struggle with adrenal fatigue, metabolism issues, lowered immunity, autoimmune disease, fertility issues, or hormonal imbalances, then it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to change the way you consume coffee.
For many years, I was one of those people that skipped breakfast & went straight for the coffee.
The coffee made me feel full and I wouldn't end up eating, until lunch, or sometimes later.
I thought it was a GOOD thing that the coffee helped to curb my appetite!
Eating less would help me lose weight, right?
Unfortunately, I didn't realize I was causing MAJOR stress to my body.
Drinking TOO much caffeine and/or drinking it on an empty stomach can cause digestive issues, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, brain fog, increased PMS symptoms, blood sugar imbalances, & sends your body into fight-or-flight mode (causing stress to the adrenals and hormones).
The liver is very low in glycogen, when you wake up in the morning....yes, the liver CAN create its own glucose, if you're in a fasting state, but WHY put your liver through that stress, when it already has over 500 other VITAL functions it needs to perform?
Having coffee on an empty stomach puts your body into "survival mode" & the longer you are in that mode, the greater the risk to your adrenal glands, hormones, & immune system (your body cannot properly detoxify itself, if it's in fight-or-flight).
The BEST thing you can do for your adrenal, hormonal, & immune health is to eat a balanced breakfast within 1 hour of waking up in the morning.
It’s best to have your coffee with your meal, or right after your meal.
Having coffee with a meal can prevent the iron in your food from being fully absorbed, so if you have a history of iron deficiency anemia, have your coffee about 20 minutes after your meal.
A balanced breakfast would include plenty of healthy protein, a good dose of healthy fat, plus a healthy carb.
Here are some examples of what I eat for breakfast, BEFORE I enjoy my cup of coffee...Steak & eggs (fried in grass-fed butter, or grass-fed ghee), with a side of berries.
I also do a LOT of scrambles, with whatever I have laying around (after Thanksgiving, I took leftover turkey, eggs, a bit of raw cheese, and some broccoli....I scrambled it all together in grass fed butter).
Some mornings, I just fry up some eggs in grass-fed butter & have them with some fruit, red potatoes, or sweet potatoes.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you are sensitive to coffee is this:
Non organic coffee is heavily sprayed with pesticides and most coffee, even the organic ones, are full of molds and mycotoxins. This is why a lot of people have issues with coffee in the first place. Since I'm also sensitive to molds, mycotoxins, and don't want to consume pesticides, I use King Coffee from Organo!
King Coffee is certified mold and mycotoxin free and it contains reishi spores! Reishi is the most studied herb in Chinese medicine, because it has SO MANY health benefits! My favorite, personal benefit from the reishi spore is the calming, adaptogenic properties it has. It's fabulous for calming the nervous system!
